Freelance B2B and B2C writer and editor

I had the pleasure of working with Lisa, who helped me with the writing of the Emergency Medical Responder manual for the publisher of the American Red Cross. Lisa is a highly skilled writer who had excellent experience in both health and technical writing - just what I was looking for. She delivered consistently high quality writing, appropriate to the readership, and on a tight schedule. I was impressed with her professional manner and her skill as a writer and would hire her again without hesitation.

Chapter 9
Raising Your Profile — How to Reach Those Hordes of Prospective Members

You might have the best chapter members in the world. You might do the best workshops, have the most prolific and dynamic people in your group…and if no one knows it, the chapter may not succeed.  New members bring fresh ideas, different perspectives, different talents and fields of expertise, networking opportunities and fresh energy to a chapter. So how do you market the chapter to the great beyond — the world outside the your existing circle — to attract the brightest and best? Here are some ideas:

Tap Internal Resources
Never underestimate the power of your chapter members to get the word out. Each member is connected in some way to dozens of other organizations, people and list-serves. You never know who might know somebody who knows somebody.

  • Brainstorm at a chapter meeting about new ways to promote the chapter.
  • Hold a membership drive and challenge your members to reach a specific target for new members recruited.
  • Make one meeting a year a “bring a friend” event.
